Soft background music plays, and the title International Collaboration Brings Hope appears on a violet background.

Matilda Kauste sits in bright sunlight. In the upper right corner, the logo of the Peace Education Institute (RKI) appears in white letters. At the bottom of the screen, text introduces her: Matilda Kauste, Assistant Coordinator, Peace Education Institute.

Matilda begins to speak:

Seeing youth workers, creative activists, and inspiring people from around the world gives such a hopeful and inspired feeling.

In a world where difficult things happen, the map starts to fill with bright spots when you hear, see, learn, and understand how much good is being done — and how many strong, dedicated people are working for peace education and young people’s equal participation.

Then there are those individual encounters and conversations through which you always learn so much about yourself — and that inevitably reflects on your own way of being an educator.

For example, one thought I took with me early on from Fryshuset, from someone working with young people there: they said that they always learn with young people.

That perspective has had a big impact on me. Even if it had been true for me before that conversation, hearing it said out loud somehow grounds you — it reminds you of the kind of educator you are, or want to be.

[Title: In Safer Environment one can be brave].

When a learning environment is safe and encouraging, it makes it possible to try, to take risks, to explore your limits and strengths.

The idea that you learn from mistakes is so liberating. Mistakes aren’t failures — they’re opportunities to learn.

When your work community is supportive, when there’s a feeling that you’re not alone with things, and there’s always someone ready to reflect, to ask questions, to offer support, or to say “hey, you’re doing great — believe in what you do,” that encouragement really matters.

Without that kind of community, it wouldn’t be possible to do this work in the same way.

It makes a huge difference when the community is safe, brave, and supportive. It offers the real opportunity to try — and to learn through experience.

[Title: International Youth Work Requires a Readiness to Learn]

For anyone who wants to work with young people and wonders, “could I do this?”, I can say — yes, absolutely.

There’s an entire community of incredible, hopeful, inspiring, and encouraging people waiting — so come join us.

What I believe is that in this field, you need to be open to learning. It’s a skill that’s incredibly useful — and one that’s truly needed in this work.

[Soft guitar music plays]

The screen transitions to a purple and orange background.
A large purple letter “R” from the Peace Education Institute’s logo appears. The R is decorated with a bird’s head motif.
The remaining letters K and I slide into view, followed by the year 2025.
