A Vision of peace: Peace Education for Secondary Education is about education for, and about, peace
There is a strong need to feel safe, perceive the future with hope, and find ways to contribute positively to society. Our Vision is to strengthen schools as Safer Spaces and to support teachers’ and students’ capacity to respond and engage with the current geopolitical circumstances and events as active citizens with non-violent, constructive and peace-building social responses.
We highlight what peace education can offer for schools and in daily activities: Safer Spaces, skills for dialogue, conflict mediation and Critical Media Literacy, to name a few. We develop and participate in Peace Education events in schools and the local community; engage in research activities which lead students to raise important questions about cultural and structural violence, war and peace; and promote peace in our environments. In Model Peace Council students find constructive ways to create dialogue that expands their worldviews and common understanding of controversial topics, and to address the rising radicalization and polarization of society. The project’s efforts will result in an interdisciplinary lesson unit for secondary education to be published in the Autumn of 2025.
